Personally I like the original much better, and its bugs are far more enjoyable than the new ones. To top it all, in order to appeal to contemporary audience, the NG+ and Phantom Maze (extra dungeon) completely change the spirit of the original game, and break the game on the same occasion (of course some will say nobody is forced to use those but all people do without knowing what they lose by doing so). The Remaster UI is phone-like and generic and IMHO not that great at all (and on iOS the menus are so aggravating). The Remaster new background graphics are very nice but this mix of large pixel art for sprites and HD art for the rest is quite weird (Edit: you said that already).
The translation was made by a non-native, it is wonky and there are some weird/wrong things if you really go into details (like the business game company names) but there is no dialogue mistranlastion (unlike in the Remaster, the irony! what a terrible work they did). The RS3 fan translation of the original game by Mana Sword is complete and perfectly playable without any problem whatsoever.
